The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is a private university with a strong focus on science and engineering. Researchers at Caltech are actively developing the technologies of the future. With 1,928 active U.S patents, Caltech is one of the nation’s leaders in the transferring of technology to the commercial sector. Following its mission to expand human knowledge and benefit society through research, Caltech along with UCLA established a joint Center for Translational Medicine (UCLA-Caltech JCTM), which conducts experimental research into clinical applications including the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Furthermore, researchers at Caltech are developing diagnostic and microscopy tools that could potentially one day be used for the diagnosis of a host of neglected tropical diseases.
